Prof. Long S. Chiu

Prof. Long S. Chiu specializes in satellite and radar observations, modeling and statistical estimation of precipitation, ocean-atmosphere-land interactions, climate modeling, and analysis and development of science data systems.

Since 1989 he has been a Senior Atmospheric Scientist and Group Manager with SAIC/General Sciences Corporation. Currently, he serves as the Science Liaison for the Science Data Information System of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), a member of the Hydrology Support Team of the Goddard Distributed Active Archive Center (GDACC), and a Co-investigator of the TRMM science team. He is also supporting the development of the research and analysis system at the International Arctic Research Center, a joint project between the University of Alaska, National Space Development Agency of Japan, and US Government agencies.

Prof. Chiu received his B.S. in physics from the University of Miami in 1974 and D.Sc. in Meteorology and Physical oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980. He is a member of Sigma Xi, The American Meteorological Society (AMS), and the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
